Fertilty Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been proven in several studies to increase success rates for those undergoing IVF treatments by 43%! For that reason, most of the nations top Fertility clinics recommend that their patients compliment and enhance their ART (assisted reproductive technology) procedures with regular Acupuncture. I have helped hundreds of women get pregnant with and without the assistance of western fertility techniques and have undergone extensive training in working with women through the various stages of IVF from Suppression to stimulation and ovulation trigger to egg retrieval , transfer and support of a healthy pregnancy. Acupuncture encourages follicular count and development, stimulates ovulation, balances menstrual cycles and enhances blood flow for supporting the growth of a healthy endometrial lining for implantation.

I implement various research backed fertility Acupuncture protocols, involving everything from Dutch Hormone testing, electric stimulation for endometrial support prior to transfer to moxibustion heat therapy for supporting progesterone in the luteal phase. Additionally, I use a number of supplements and Chinese herbs to regulate cycles, treat PCOS and underlying metabolic dysfunction, encourage follicular growth, increase sperm count, mobility and morphology, and support optimal hormone levels to help increase fertility in a holistic way.

Electric Stimulation for Fertility

Prior to Retrieval

When used twice weekly in the four weeks leading up to egg retrieval, one study showed that e-stim acupuncture had a positive effect on endocrine stress hormones cortisol and prolactin, which resulted in balanced hormones and a reduction of stress. Electric stimulation has also been shown to increase the number of mature eggs by reducing the occurance of a certain enzyme that can deter eggs from reaching full maturity.

Prior to Transfer

It’s recommended to receive at once weekly treatments at a minimum to increase blood flow and endometrial receptivity of the uterus by decreasing Pulsatility index (which when high can predict a poor IVF outcome).

For those undergoing IVF, I mainly prescribe herbs and supplements in the supression and retrieval phases of your journey to increase follicular development and health and combat the common side effects of hormonal therapies.

Pregnancy

I work with women throughout their pregnancies to support discomforts of the common and not-so-common variety including: nausea, reflux, hip and low back pain, leg cramps, insomnia, digestive issues, spotting or threatened miscarriage, subchorionic hematoma, hypertension, edema, breach baby turning, and induction of labor. I also encourage my new mom patients to come in for treatments post-partum with their babies where I can help to contract the uterus for healthy post-partum healing, support lactation, reduce post-natal depression and assist with any other issues. For over 17 years I have been making hospital calls for assistance with inductions and am happy to continue to offer that as a service.
